A graduate of Cambridge and Warwick Universities (MBA), David spent eleven years within the Retail sector initially within operational management posts at Marks & Spencer followed by senior marketing roles at Boots the Chemists and Kingfisher. |
David entered the media sector as Director for international publisher The National Magazine Company where he launched a home shopping division to harness the strength of global magazine brands including Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and Esquire ultimately leading to the creation of the first mail order catalogue for the group.
At Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), the world's second largest marketing research company, as Group Marketing Director, he led the organisation into a new venture providing direct marketing services. He was also Business Development Director for one of the firm's leading retail research products.
As Marketing Director at Which? (formerly Consumers' Association), David was responsible for the marketing of the Which? brand including magazines, books and online services. He successfully repositioned the Which? brand to a younger audience, introduced the popular internet service and developed a radical new membership acquisition strategy for the organisation.
David joined the Leisure sector as Group Marketing Director for Cannons Health Clubs with responsibility for the Cannons private health clubs and local authority managed sites under the Courtneys brand. He later joined Crown Sports where, as Group Commercial Director he managed the commercial activities across all of the operating divisions including health clubs, golf clubs and the international publishing division.
David has been elected as a member of the executive boards of two leading marketing trade associations - The Direct Marketing Association and Institute of Sales Promotion and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is a respected executive search practitioner whose previous experience includes the launch and subsequent development of a successful Retail, Leisure & Media practice at one of the UK's leading independent search consultancies.
